It was a lovely day for a bimble today, and having just got over a bad case of bronchitis, I headed up for an easy stroll around Dartmoor, starting out at Haytor. Heading north towards Hound Tor.
The sunlight was quite spectacular, the weather warm. I needed nothing more than a couple of base layers and my wind-shirt. The wind-shirt has been an absolute revelation. I was lucky enough to be given this by TrailGoove magazine last year, and with every use, I realise just what a fantastically useful piece of clothing this is. So much warmth for so little weight.
As I looped back around Hound Tor, heading back towards the car, a huge column of smoke was very obvious to the NE. These burns are quite common, as the land-owners burn patches of gorse every year, but this looked to be something big

After that, it was time to head back home, but after such a great walk, what could be better than a nigh under the stars.
The forecast was for a dry night, so bivi-bag at the ready, it was out to the back garden at bed time to fall asleep looking a the stars.
